Head of Practice

TOGastprofessor Dr. Toshiyuki Oshima, DDS, DMD

After my graduation, I joined the Graduate School of Medicine at Kyoto University’s Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, specializing in oral and maxillofacial surgery. During that time, I became familiar with a number of fatal diseases such as cancer and, as a result, came to realize the importance of preventive medicine. There certainly are cases that require immediate medical intervention. However, it is my personal objective to improve my patients’ quality of life by virtue of preventive medicine.

I am a qualified occupational medicical consultant accredited by the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare (awarded a qualification to practice in companies where employees are provided with in-house health care). As a medical consultant officer at the head quarter of the World Health Organisation (WHO) in Geneva, I have advised medical bodies and universities in developing countries on telemedicine and other related topics together with American universities and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).

To pursue my interest in international healthcare and preventive medicine, I have had dealings with international healthcare departments as an Associate Professor at the Institute of International Co-operation, Department of Health Sciences, working for International Service Universities. I’m also appointed as a Visiting Professor at Asahi University in Japan.

The reason I came to Germany was to join a research project and inform my practice at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University Hospital in Freiburg. I have recently taken the opportunity to set up my own private practice in Frankfurt called Oshima Private Dentist Office where I focus on preventive medicine. I aim to provide my patients with advice on good oral hygiene in order for them to maintain a good state of teeth and gums.
